Hi Tana. How'r things going? I guess maybe I hit the wall on success with buying gems? I am wondering, since for some reason gem rock isn't displaying pictures at the moment, was the Ametrine 28890 ( loupe clean ) chipped on the side of it? I mean, the thing was in great wrapping and then in a box on top of that. I was ooo'ing and ahhh'ing over it and the saw the chip in the upper right hand side of the stone. If stone is oriented with light portion down, crown facing you, the chip is on the right hand side of the girdle. Was that there when shipped?
I got the apatite also. I like all three of those stones... :) I'll be leaving positive feedback later, I still like the Ametrine, just wondering about the chip in it.
Thanks,
Andrew
Hi Tana. Hope you are enjoying Friday :) I am about to fly home so I am pretty excited about that! Anyway, yeah, if you look at the gemrock pictures, its on the purple side. On the right side of the stone if the stone is oriented with the light side down. I've sent you two pictures from the gemrock site because after further inspection, there are actually two things going on with this stone.
First is the chip. You can see the tell tale sign of a chip in an indention on the right side of the stone. The second issue is that there is a streak on the surface of the stone's crown. In the picture it looks like reflections from the tongs. and that is why I asked you if it was really loupe clean or if that was just the picture. It's not just the picture because the streak is evident on top. I just didn't see it because I was focusing on the chip.
I've sent pictures of it to tana4100@hotmail.com so you can investigate. I've taken the pics from gemrock and just circled the areas in red that I am talking about. I used paint to circle them. Please let me know you got them.
Thanks,
Andrew
Well, I really want you to see what I am talking about. Otherwise I don't feel comfortable as a buyer just letting you make amends for something that you haven't actually seen. It's also for my own sanity. Is the tana4100@hotmail.com that I got from paypal a good address? Should I try a different address?
hahahaha.. I'm a nut. How about this. Just go to https://login.yahoo.com/config/mail?.intl=us and log in with the userID monsterchipped and the password of 123456. I've sent emails there and checked them so they are good. Don't think I'm pressing or anything, I just want you to see them too.
Anyway, I guess something fair would be the cost of the stone - how much it would cost me to have it recut because it's not really in any shape to put in jewlery or display. I have no idea how much that should be, I am not in this business. So I can return the item to you for a full refund or we can cut whatever the recutting cost would be off the price of the stone. $50? I have no idea. I've found stuff online in the neighborhood of $100, but that's not fair since I don't believe its your fault either. Please check out the stone on monsterchipped@yahoo.com.
Thanks,
Andrew
hmmmmm.... did you look at the pics from gemrock where I circled the "signs" of the chip and also the streak in it? I called a few places here in town and not many places deal with stones other than diamonds but I did find one place called precious gems that says they recut stones. They are all in Vegas for some big convention there and will see me next week. They are right around the corner from where I work! Who new??
Thanks for working with me. I'd like to keep the stone, but I certainly can't use it like it is. I do feel it was chipped prior to shipping based on the gemrock pictures. I believe it was just not pronouced because its on the purple side. Too bad..really beautiful stone otherwise...
Andrew
Tana,
Sorry for my delay on this. I've been out of pocket for a while. But, I've been in contact and personally saw the stone cutter here in NYC. His name is Rocha Lapidary Inc. and his phone number is 646-325-8878. When I spoke with him, he quoted me $30.00 to recut the stone but wants to see it personally before stating the final price. He said he want's to speak with me about how to cut it first. Nice guy.
So, I'll have a quote for you tomorrow. He'll also have a gem dealer in the office tomorrow that I can meet. That should be exciting :)
Thank you,
Andrew
Hi Tana. Hope you are doing well today. I took the gem to the cutter. He looked at it and said that he could facet around the chip and fix the girdle to match as well as polish out the scratches that are on the stone's crown and facets. So all is good with that. He's going to charge me $30.00. I'd like to have this amount credited back to my paypal account/credit card.
Thank you,
Andrew
Hi Tana,
Thank you, when will you be posting the credit back to paypal?
Going to pick up the stone in an hour or so. Very excited to see how it turned out :) I'll have to send some pics to you of it. Since you were so kind to pass it on to me :)
Andrew
Hi Tana,
I just went and checked and paypal is looking good. I don't really understand how paypal does it's debits and credits but then again, I didn't pass accounting either. I also went and picked up the stone today, it looks good as well. The gem seller that was at the lapidary shop today also told me my stone was synthetic. When you listed it, you listed it as genuine;
MONSTEROUS 56.20ct Emerald Cut Genuine Ametrine~Collectors!
So he tells me that the stone is a synthetic and the price I paid for a synthetic was way too high. I am quite bummed about this..... I asked him how he knew and he said that the only way he could tell for sure was by spending $125 and getting the stone certified. I said I didn't pay that much for it so there's no way that I'd have it certified. And he smiled at me and said, do you think that a coincidence??
Is the stone synthetic?

Yeah, If you looked at this stone, you'd see it right off I am sure. Its not evident from the top but from the side its glaring right at me, unfortunately. Its a beautiful stone otherwise. I have a pic of it and sent it to your tana4100@hotmail.com address if you are interested in seeing it.
deg15scorpio, May 29, 2008:
Well thanks for looking. I am a bit disappointed with it considering my cost and the previous experience. Thank you for not thinking I chipped it right off the bat....
