some useful     ' Ammolite '  information

Ammolite, the opal - like gemstone, is one of the rarest on earth.  Although being over 70 million years old they are one of the newest gemstones, granted its status by the 'World Jewellery Confederation' in 1981.

Red color is fairly common, unlike precious opal where red is rarer and the most valued.  Ammolite is mostly found in reds and greens with blues and purples being less frequent and therefore more valued.  The stones that show brighter color, are less directional and with colorplay, and show three or more colors are the greater in value.  Also, as with opal, the type of pattern plays a part in the stones value too.

Ammolite is only a thin sheet and is very rare without its matrix which is mostly limestone or shale, sometimes clay and is often flakey.  For this reason it is common practice to stabilize stones by coating / impregnating them with a resin or epoxy, this is a form of treatment, for protection against further deterioration of the stone.  All our ammolite items are genuine.  They have been crafted and polished using the same techniques as with our opal and many have not been treated or coated unless clearly stated in the above description section.

     G’Day

I am as excited about these gems today as when I started working with them over 15 years ago. My name is Andrew, and my fascination with opals started back in 1992. Since then I have been involved with cutting, crafting and selling these ‘little Aussie beauties’ and the years have seen me work for several multi national companies.

Personally, I have only ever mined opal for fun, as a hobby, with friends and associates who own and work leases in western Queensland and Lightning Ridge areas.  These products for sale here are directly from them, the hard workers in the field.

Should you ever feel that the product you receive is not what you expect please feel free to contact me at your earliest convenience. You will receive a reply within 48 hours from me or a representative from my opal family to discuss your replacement or prompt refund.

Best of luck with your opal and gem endeavors!

Andrew
