Landmarks Theme – Broome
The coin’s reverse symbolises Broome, a magnet for visitors offering winter warmth and an intoxicating blend of history, romance and indulgence. From the 1880s, European, Asian and indigenous Australians flocked to Roebuck Bay on the north-west coast in search of pearls and personal fortunes. Their pearling adventures and the fascinating melting pot of cultures they created still flavour the charismatic town.
Coloured Reverse Design
The reverse design portrays a coloured pearl shell containing four white pearls on a beach. As well as a lugger at sea, the design also incorporates The Perth Mint's traditional ‘P’ mintmark and the year-date.
Australian Legal Tender
Issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965, the coin depicts Ian Rank-Broadley's effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on its obverse.
