ABOUT SILLIMANITE

Sillimanite is a genuine natural polymorph with two other minerals, kyanite and andalusite. A polymorph is a mineral that shares the same chemistry (Al2 SiO5, Aluminum Silicate) but a different crystal structure with another, or other minerals. Sillimanite is the rarest of the three. It can come in these colors green, yellow, brown, black, grey, blue, white or colorless. Green, yellow and blue colors are extremely hard to find. Its hardness on the Mohs scale is 7.5 Opaque or semitransparent Sillimanite can be chatoyant. Sillimanite can be cut an cabochon forming beautiful cat eyes. Facet grade Sillimanite cuts very beautiful, fiery gems.
