acadien, March 28, 2008:
...this is a fabrication. These are snail shells of the limpet family. I deal with them constantly and venture to say they are from the Phillipines. As a Hawaiian artist using true "Opihi and Ko'ele" shells for jewelry I have seen 10000's of these shells being passed of in the islands as opihi. Please stop this. They are not turtle shell, which would be reprehensible, nor are they opihi....they are limpets and should be sold as that and only that. I will also state that as you can see the nacre/mother of pearl when you have them in hand, that this is NO ACCIDENT.
