The word topaz originated from the word Sanskrit, meaning fire. Egyptians believed the topaz was coloured from the golden glow of the might sun god Ra. The brilliance of this stone made the topaz a very powerful amulet that protected them against harm. Topaz occurs in a variety of colours, the two most valuable colours are a deep golden yellow topaz and pink topaz.
