ORIGIN : MADEM-LAKKOS MINE, CHALKIDIKI, MACEDONIA, GREECE
(MACEDONIA - THE LAND OF THE GREEK KING ALEXANDER THE GREAT)
A wonderful example from this locality and a Greek classic now found only in private collections from this locality consisting of UV reactive Manganoan Calcite crystals which glow a delightful sweet orange -pink color under long wave ultraviolet light (see pictures). Minor shiny golden Pyrite also present. The locality is hardly known to the mineral world and hardly any of this material from this locality is available on the market which makes it a rare specimen (google search). Specimen comes from the historically mined but now closed Madem-Lakkos deposit in Northern Greece. All specimens I offer from Madem-Lakkos come from old miners and were found decades ago at upper levels of mines that are now closed and cemented. New levels are deeper and produce only massive PBG ore. Will be a great and interesting addition to any rock, uv and mineral collection. This is the opportunity to add this old timer to your rock/mineral collection.
Please note : Fluorescence is a phenomenon that causes a mineral to "glow" within the visible spectrum when exposed to ultraviolet light. Ultraviolet light is a form of electromagnetic radiation invisible to the human eye. The ultraviolet reaction is only visible with a special fluorescent torch / lamp with a filter that blocks white light but allows ultraviolet light to pass through. In order to achieve satisfactory results, do not use inexpensive 'UV' lights. The UV longwave torch I use to take the photos with is a Convoy S2+ Nichia UV 365nm LED Flashlight with filter lens. Keep in mind that not only wattage, filtration but also distance from the UV torch to specimen are significant factors for best results. Use protective UV-absorbing goggles, for extended viewing.
