16.10ct unheated blue sapphire from Burma.
This is a saturated blue sapphire, a medium to rich blue that is quite uniform, that ‘Burmese blue’ you can tell after looking at many sapphires.
The blue can be described as a spectrum between cornflower blue and velvet blue.
The blue sapphire has inclusions that do not intrude or detract from its beauty. The Burmese blue sapphire’s signature fluid feather inclusions are beautiful to look at.
These inclusions do not intrude as this is a velvety blue sapphire, not faint anywhere, so they flicker in and out of the eye.
Size notwithstanding, this jewel is a lovely specimen for admirers of Burmese stones.
For this is an old stone that has literally come to us out of the blue, we did not expect to find one.
All photos are taken in natural light, no additional lamp is used.
The stone measures 15.09 x 13.17 x 9.14mm.
