Madan, in the Rhodope Mountains of Bulgaria, just north of the frontier with Greece, is an ancient ore-miners’ settlement. The history of mining in the Madan region extends back at least as far as the Thracians in the fifth century B.C. where the extraction of lead ore began

A wonderful example featuring black Sphalerite, shiny golden Pyrite annd micro terminated Quartz crystals along with well formed UV reactive Manganoan Calcite which glows a delightful sweet color under long wave ultraviolet light (see pictures). Specimen is interesting under magnification as there is detail to explore, can you spot the Sphalerite crystals with the defined faces and edges, view the micro Quartz crystals with the green Chlorite. Although crystals are visible to the naked eye, specimen requires magnification in order to enjoy the crystal structures. Specimen would look delightful in a UV display. Will be a wonderful addition to any mineral or rock collection.
