Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to everyone!

If you checked our listings within last three months you might notice I (actually one of our customers) mentioned current precious stones prices that are about twice as much for Zambian and many times more for Colombian emeralds and start at $3,000 per ct for even average to good grade unheated sapphires. You may also notice that I promised to keep my prices unchanged until the end of the year and I will keep my promise. Current lowest wholesale (like at dealers only gem shows) price for so-so Zambian stone is $800 per ct; $1,800-$2,200 for top 1+ ct stones; $1,200; $2,500-$3,500 per ct respectively for 2+ ct and the more the weight the more price per ct. For Colombian even low grade (very light; average color heavily included) starts at $4,000 per ct; good but not top stones cost $12,000-$15,000 per ct and as for top... If I would sell all my Colombian stones even for top online stores like James Allen or NY Gems prices and not Tiffany, Cartier and the like ones I would write this from my island in French Polynesia... or probably it would be archipelago. As for Zambian stones I will increase prices but not significantly. Colombian are different: we cannot afford to buy any new stones for current prices; all we have are from our very old inventory. So, I will change prices to lower than wholesale but not much lower ones. But I will do it January 1, 2020. Until then enjoy "Big Holiday Season Sale!"

I often give an information about FAIR and REASONABLE - not astronomical in various industry price lists - prices and post price list of Gem World International - Bible of every jeweler, gem dealer and serious buyer. But we live in ever-changing world. A few days ago (in October 2019) one customer sent me a message:

"Came back from the HK  (Hong Kong - one of the few top dealers only gem shows) gem show last month and the prices were crazy high. No Zambians for less than $800/ct, and couldn't even get a whiff of even low grade Colombians for less than $4,000/ct.

Just ok colour heat only sapphires started at $1,000/ct. Unheated somewhere over $3,000/ct.

Needless to say I came away very unimpressed! These people were supposed to be wholesalers, trying to price like a retail store."

I didn't go to gem shows for about a year and contacted our supplier that attended almost all of them. Yes, it is prices now and he added that prices for such stones as tanzanite and paraiba tourmaline (I don't sell tourmaline) are moving steadily towards astronomical. Still, in the light of upcoming Holiday Season I am not going to increase prices for already listed stones and will continue to sell for "obsolete" prices to the end of the year.

This stone is not low grade; when only Medium in Tone (but not so much desirable - thanks to industry brainwashing Medium Dark!) Colombian stones can be Top Grade, it is Very Good Grade (up to $15,000 per ct according to International Gem Society; up to $4,500 per ct according to Gem World International but their prices are prices dealer to dealer/jeweler, not retail).

Incredibly clean, transparent, bright, brilliant and glowing top Colombian stone! Because of “but Light-Medium Light...” of people that pay too much attention to industry' brainwashing I priced it for $500 per ct but I sell such stones on gem shows for $3,000 per ct with very little room for negotiation (or no room if show is Intergem Club. No one negotiates there though).

Stone: Natural (Green) Beryl

Variety: Emerald

Shape: Pear

Weight: 2.04 ct

Hue: slightly bluish Green

Tone: Light-Medium Light

Saturation: Vivid

Clarity: Type 3 VVS

Cut: Excellent

Polish: Ideal

Treatment: Colorless Oil

Origin: Colombia

Clarity. Absolutely clean, actually “non-existing” for Type 3 stones (technically their clarity grade tops at VVS; they “must be included”) IF or at the very least IF-VVS face up (as stones have to be graded. But speaking about this stone you will not see a single speck of dust even under the angle). Also “absolute” transparency. Perfect crystal of the finest water!

Picture. We purchased the parcel containing this stone in 2010. That time it was still possible to buy good Colombian stones for a reasonable price (now it is a fair-tale: “Once upon a time there were beautiful Colombian stones and you could buy them – well, in bulk – not for $2,000-$35,000 and for $300-$400 per ct.” If you'll tell this fair-tale to a young gem dealer who just started today, you'll hear: “You'd better stop doing drugs”). Since then I tried to photograph this stone. I realized pretty soon that it belongs to “cannot be photographed” category, deserved a proud title “stubborn idiot” from my assistant, but kept trying. Fortunately about a year ago I found the photographer who agreed to work for us. It is not his usual “all brilliance in the universe” picture and it is pretty good but of course it is very far from reality and actually could not be otherwise. This stone is a total glow, total sparkle, total brilliance and that's why it cannot be photographed. I posted second picture which is one of the frames of video I just made with my cell phone. Well, it is good only for the pilot of the new Hollywood blockbuster "Dirty Spotty Monster From The Deep," but at least it looks more or less natural. Actually I don't remember if it is a frame from the video of this stone or from the video of nearly identical one.

Stone. I can hear a chorus: “Top stone?! But it is Light-Medium Light! Only dark stones can be top.” First, actually it is Medium Light. I graded it Light-Medium Light because of incredible transparency and brightness, vivid saturation (which always makes stones visually lighter), truly dazzling brilliance and inner glow. You should take the stone away from the direct strong light to see its real Tone. Second, TECHNICALLY Medium Light cannot be Top Grade but it can be Very Good Grade. But Dark cannot be Top Grade, cannot be Very Good Grade, it tops at Good Grade (polite way to say “no good at all”). And if a stone is Colombian and so much desirable Medium Dark in Tone, it cannot be Top Grade; it must be Medium to qualify and Colombian Medium is lighter than Zambian and Brazilian. Actually most Top Grade colors are Medium in Tone. There is only one hue that can be Medium Dark and still be Top Grade – Bluish (or Blue) Green – but it is hue of some Zambian not Colombian stones. Industry motto is “the darker the better.” Why is very transparent. Colombian stones are lighter and usually much lighter than Zambian and Brazilian. Still they are “pound for pound” are more valuable and always were (I posted Gem World International values for Colombian and Zambian emeralds). But since approximately 2011-2012 there are no even decent over 1 ct Colombian stones on the market. Not even VERY light ones. O, they are on the market, only on different market. Market for the buyers like Tiffany, Cartier and the like that can pay $15,000-$35,000 per ct (so “low” prices are because they are in bulk). Two guys that run the entire Colombian emerald market don't want to sell tons of stones even though they can. They want to sell less for tons of money. But industry needs people to buy, buy and buy – otherwise there will be no industry. As for mere mortals there are Zambian and Brazilian. Zambian are great if they are top, but it is not easy to find a good stone for a reasonable price – Zambian president first prohibited the export of emeralds and then gave a monopoly to only one company (Gemfield) They are readily available in a few online stores like Gems NY, James Allen and NY Gems, but when not $50,000-$65,000/ct Tiffany retail and a standard $12,000-$30,000 per ct, these prices are still far from cheap. This leaves only Brazilian stones and virtually all of them are dark.

We combine shipping. Each additional stone is $0.50 ($1 for a piece of jewelry). Since Gemrock doesn’t provide this option and charges the full shipping price for each item, please ask us for a total invoice.

We refund immediately - usually within 24 hours - no questions asked.

Two answers to the question I receive a few times per week:

Question: Can you show me a few more pictures?

Answer one: All listed stones are in hands of my assistant that ships them. Depends on the time of the year I am either 300 miles or 3,000 miles away from her. She takes pictures for certificates using camera in her cell phone under the kitchen light. If you are a producer of horror movies I can ask her to take a few pictures but please don’t show them to your children: poor kids will have a nervous breakdown.

Answer two: In 40+ years I didn’t see a single BOTH good and realistic picture of the stone if it was emerald. For the reason I don’t quite understand emerald is a stone that “doesn’t want to be photographed” (it doesn’t apply to any other stone). I take about 100 pictures of each stone, give them to my assistant to choose (I don’t have enough willpower to look at my results) and I am lucky if she doesn’t say: “I cannot use any picture from your nightmarish set.” Finally we found a photographer who agreed to take pictures for us (two before him tried and run away in horror) but his pictures when good are usually artistic-surrealistic interpretation. Nothing will replace seeing a stone in person and again - we refund immediately no questions asked.

My partner and I have a registered in NY State business (ES Gems) that includes gemological lab and for eBay we certify our stones. I’ll post certificates here too (unless a stone is certified by GIA or AGL).

Please note that emerald is Type 3 stone (most included and is considered to be always included). Its clarity grade tops at VVS, (not FL, IF or even IF-VVS) which according to GIA is barely equal to SI2 of Type 1 stone.

We ship internationally by Registered Mail for $29.95. You can ask about other shipping methods both domestically (regular USPS is $6.95) and internationally.
