COPPER SPLASH

This is a piece of cooper that has ben heated and then splashed on a dish to cool leaving amazing shapes. When the shapes are cooled, a green or turquoise-colored chemical patina is applied using a copper Carbonate, then highlights are buff polished to expose the solid copper raised areas. The finished sculptures are finally sprayed with a clear acrylic finish to prevent the copper from tarnishing. Interesting collectors item.

Copper, as native copper, is one of the few metals to naturally occur as an un-compounded mineral. Copper was known to some of the oldest civilizations on record, and has a history of use that is at least 10,000 years old. Some estimates of copper's discovery place this event around 9000 BC in the Middle East .A copper pendant was found in what is now northern Iraq that dates to 8700 BC. Color

Copper has a reddish, orangish, or brownish color because a thin layer of tarnish(including oxides) gradually forms on its surface when gases (especially oxygen) in the air react with it. But pure copper, when fresh, is actually a pinkish or peachy metal. Copper, caesium and gold are the only three elemental metals with a natural color other than gray or silver. The usual gray color of metals depends on their "electron sea" that is capable of absorbing and re-emitting photons over a wide range of frequencies. Copper is a metal that does not react with water , but the oxygen of the air will react slowly at room temperature to form a layer of brown-black copper oxide on copper metal.

Why are users outbidding themselves?

When a bid is placed, this is the maximum amount a user is willing to bid for the product. Our system will then automatically bid on that users behalf, incrementally increasing the bid to maintain their position as the highest bidder, up to the specified maximum.

When there is an icon indicating 'Auto Bid,' it means our system is actively placing bids for the user based on their maximum bid. This may appear as if users are outbidding themselves, but it's simply a result of the system updating the bid to reflect the users maximum limit.

Audit

The Gemstone Sheriff program allows our members to request an audit on any product, which is completed by an independent Gemologist who assesses the accuracy of the item description and pictures.
