CONICHALCITE, AZURITE SPECIMEN
Conichalcite is an uncommon calcium copper arsenate hydroxide mineral, that forms in the oxidation zone of copper ore deposits.
Named by August Breithaupt and Carl Julius Fritzsche in 1849 from the
Greek κουία for "konis" (powder) and χαλκος for "chalkos" (copper) in
allusion to its composition and appearance of the mineral at times.

A wonderful specimen from the famous Lavrion mines in Greece. This specimen consists of green Conichalcite globular aggregates/spheres with a little contrasting blue Azurite. Colors are vivid and contrast wonderfully. Specimen is delightful under magnification as there are details to explore. Although spherical crystals are obvious to the naked eye, specimen requires magnification in order to fully enjoy the structures. IS MOUNTED IN A PLASTIC 40x34x31mm DISPLAY CASE
MINERAL SPECIMEN COMES FROM THE FAMOUS ANCIENT LAVRIO MINES. MOST OF THESE MINES ARE 2500 YEARS OLD AND HAVE A TOTAL LENGTH OF 50 KILOMETRES AND WERE BUILT ON SIX UNDERGROUND LEVELS. THE ENTIRE MINING SITE OF LAVRIO CONSTITUTES A NATURAL MUSUEM SINCE MORE THAN 400 MINERAL SPECIES CAN BE FOUND IN THE REGION. MOST OF THESE MINERALS ARE FOUND IN PRIVATE COLLECTIONS.
