This is an incredibly bright piece of gem quality rhodonite. The fiery red lights up with big, strong flashes and with the way the stone has been cut the biggest flashes come straight up through the table, this is optimum for a stone like gem quality rhodonite as being a softer stone it is suited to a closed type setting and having the best colour and brightness shining straight up through the table is perfect, not only that but a closed setting will also be very effective at hiding the wispy inclusions within the piece. This really is a stunning collectors piece for those who appreciate gemmology and the rarity of material like this.
This material was mined in Brazil as a by product of a manganese mine, normally you could never justify the time and money it would take to retrieve this amazing quality of rhodonite given that it has been brought up from a depth of 1.5km underground. This also means that no additional land was excavated to retrieved it as it is simply a by-product of the manganese mining.
