Wow, what an amazing old stock Imperial Topaz. As you can see from the paperwork, this Topaz was appraised in 1980, back when the mines were still producing top quality color. As you can see from the pictures, this stone has a very rich Peach color, "Yellowish Orange" according to the appraisal, and has "High" intensity, which is really what you're looking for with any fine gem. You're not going to find a nicer example of an Imperial Topaz for this price anywhere. This stone has an appraised value of $3,000 per carat, which is much higher than the other Imperial Topaz we have listed from the same appraiser. The reason the value is so much higher is because this stone is basically perfect in every way. It has the highest possible clarity grade and the highest possible intensity. Combine that with the fact that this is an old stock stone, you just aren't going to find a nicer Imperial Topaz anywhere, especially for the price we're asking.
This gemstone comes with the pictured appraisal certificate from the Independent Jewelry Appraisers, Inc in Houston, Texas. For those who don’t know how appraisal values are determined, they are done in two ways. Some appraisers assign a retail value, whereas others give a replacement value, which is considered wholesale. This appraisal gives a "Fair Market Value" which is considered a retail value. That being said however, this "Fair Market Value" was from 1980, when the appraisal was issued, so the stone has increased in value since then. The wholesale value of this stone today is somewhere in the neighborhood of $1500 per carat, for this color and clarity. As you can see, we're asking even less than wholesale for an old stock, top quality Imperial Topaz.
I took pictures of this stone in high magnification against a white background to give you the best idea of color and quality. As a gemologist I can verify that the above description is accurate and that this stone/stones have been tested in the gem lab to verify identity and natural origin.
