PRASE QUARTZ SPECIMEN
According to recent research, electron microprobe analyses and oxygen isotope measurements of Prase quartz from this locality show that the color of these green quartz crystals is caused by small and acicular Amphibole inclusions (not hedenbergite, as was thought for decades up to now). Data also revealed that there are two generations of amphibole inclusions within the green quartz crystals, which indicate that the fluid, from which both amphiboles and quartz have crystallized, must have had a change in its chemical composition during the crystallization process.

This is the rarest type of Quartz and one of the most uniquely beautiful varieties of Quartz in the world found only in Serifos island. This is a unique specimen from one of the best-known locales for this type of mineral. This specimen consists of translucent leafy green Prase Quartz crystals on
Mushketovite
(magnetite pseudomorph after hematite) covered by iron oxides. Colors are
vivid and contrast wonderfully. Specimen is delightful under
magnification as there are details to explore. Apart from the 3 larger crystals, under magnification you will spot another 8 crystals. Although most
crystals are
obvious to the naked eye, specimen requires magnification in order to
fully enjoy the structures. Prase Quartz has a particular way of growing, it gets thinner towards the top of the crystal, which is known as a tessin habit. This specific growth habit is an indicator that they are genuine crystals that come from this area. An old classic now found only in private collections due to the prohibition of mining. This was mined in the late 1980's and early 1990's and I was lucky to acquire it from an old collection.
