A pair of natural cat’s eye chrysoberyl gems weighing 8.8ct and 8.66ct.
The 8.8ct is a cat’s eye alexandrite, a variant of its chrysoberyl other half, changing from honey brown to purple brown under incandescent light.
This is a special pair we ‘matched’, with intention of setting a pair of cluster studs.
It will be phenomenal, as are cat’s eyes stones when creatively and organically set.
Until then, the pair is available for the imagination.
Both stones display with a sharp chatoyancy, both bear the ‘milk and honey’ texture.
Due to their banding and size, they look more similar than dissimilar. In natural light, the cat’s eye chrysoberyl is just a little more yellow than the cat’s eye alexandrite, which is a little darker (see last photo).
Both are about 10mm by 8mm, a reasonable size to begin a cluster to work into a striking stud earring.
In a pair of cat’s eye earrings, the choice of asymmetry may be obvious, to those who share its meaning.
Working with stones for a while, we know this pair of Yin Yang cat’s eyes will go where it must.
