Hessonite Garnet is an orange to reddish orange variety of grossular Garnet. It is sometimes referred to as Cinnamon stone because of the color. It has a very special effect called treacle which is the same affect you get when whisky mixes with water. It gives the stones a silky, oily look. The main source for these gems is Sri Lanka with many stones coming from the gem bearing gravel of river beds. Since most stones are cut by natives in Sri Lanka, finding a well cut stone can be a challenge.
