Malaya Garnet is the name given to a reddish orange to yellowish orange garnet that is actually a mixture of Pyrope and Spessartite Garnet. These gems are mainly found in Tanzania, in the Umba valley. Malaya Garnet also goes by the name Malaia, which means outcast in Swahili. They were called this because of their unique color which could not be classified into the normal Garnet varieties. Most of these stone have tiny needles which give the stone a silk look, but they do not detract from the beauty or the value of the stone. Malaya Garnet is beautiful.
