Australia has produced very little turquoise. Ammarroo in Australia’s Northern Territory was mined during WW2 by the Australian Army. The Army were looking for highly explosive white phosphorous for tracer rounds in ammunition manufacturing. This mining in the Georgina Basin continued up until 1952, when the mine permanently closed. The land has since been returned to native title.

All of our natural Australian turquoise was sourced from this mine during this vintage era of old timer mining. This collection itself is more than 80 years old.

The material has been graded over decades of cutting and exploring its origins. It is all of lapidary grade, each slab has been stress tested. It cuts very pretty stones.
