Rare 1.85 Ct Natural Grape Garnet From Mozambique.

The “Grape” garnet is a mix of the pyrope and almandine garnets, and tend to display a color shift under different light sources. It is not unheard of to see these gems shift from a pleasant grape purple in colder (white) light to a bright pinkish red or magenta in warmer (incandescent) light.
Spectrometer showed that the material was a pyrope-almandine garnet with the following chemical components: 48.8-59.5% pyrope, 37.9-47.6% almandine, 2.0-3.5% grossular, and 0.5-0.6% spessartine.
Facetable gem material above three carats is quite rare, and stones above five carats tend to be overly dark regardless of the cutting style. This makes top material even more valuable and sought after in the market, even within the relatively affordable Garnet family.

Source: This rare purple-red garnet is mined only in the State of Orissa on the Bay of Bengal in eastern India. Mining of the alluvial deposit is done by hand using small tools like picks and shovels.
Clarity: All Grape Garnets® are free of eye-visible inclusions.
Size Range: 0.3 carat to 3.0 carats. Large sizes are very rare.
