Spinel Cabochons are stones that have been cut into a high
domed round or oval stone. These types of cut give the stone a deep colored
look because there is so much of the stone retained in Spinel Cabochons.
Spinel Cabochons can come from any region where Spinel is
found. Generally the stones will be of lower quality because the rough material
used has to cut a fairly large stone. Spinel Cabochons can have small inclusions
in them without reducing the value of the stone.
Spinel Cabochons are very hard with a hardness of 8 on the
MOHS scale. Look for stones with a nice symmetrical shape and good color. The
most important factor to consider is color.
Once you decide what stone you like try and find the most
clear or inclusion free stone that fits within your budget.
