Madan, in the Rhodope Mountains of Bulgaria, just north of the frontier with Greece, is an ancient ore-miners’ settlement. The history of mining in the Madan region extends back at least as far as the Thracians in the fifth century B.C. where the extraction of lead ore began.

A nice example from the Madan ore field in Bulgaria consisting of iridescent Pyrite cubes along with silvery Galena. Specimen is very interesting under magnification as there are many features to explore other than the Pyrite and Galena, spot the iridescent Pyrite cubes with wonderful rainbow colors and view the greenish minor Chlorite along with the terminated micro Quartz crystals, minor black Sphalerite also present. Although crystals are obvious to the naked eye, specimen requires magnification in order to fully enjoy the range of interesting structures and colors. Will be a wonderful addition to any mineral or rock collection.
