ORIGIN : PARANESTI, DRAMA PREFECTURE, MACEDONIA, GREECE.
Wonderful example of natural untreated pinkish red rough Rubies on green Amphibolite schist which glow under long wave ultraviolet light (see pictures). Top colour for the locality. Paranesti is the most important and productive ruby locality in Greece and specimens from there are considered the best. The locality is hardly known to the mineral world and hardly any of this material from this locality is available on the market which makes it very rare (google search). Will be an impressive addition from an unusual locality to any rock and mineral collection.
The finest rubies in Greece are found hosted in a 300m long x 20m wide amphibolite schist zone in contact with gneiss located west of Paranesti village at Drama prefecture. The locality was discovered in 1985 and first specimens were collected in 1991. Rubies are found sporadically in the amphibolite rock and collectible specimens are extremely hard to find nowadays. Ruby color varies from light pink to red with red being the rarest color. Average ruby size is less than 0.5 cm and bigger size specimens are rare. Rubies show intense bright red fluorescence. Locality is now considered a classic. Do not miss this opportunity.
