Iridescent Ammonite fossil from Madagascar displaying intense flashes of greens, blues and reds. This striking iridescent ammonite was found in the jungle of Mahajanga on the north west coast of Madagascar an island off the east coast of Africa. The incredible colours found in these ammonites are produced by the shell of the fossils being replaced by the mineral Aragonite which gives an opal like effect. These ammonites are often referred to as fire ammonites, opalescent ammonites or just iridescent ammonites. This has been resin coated for protection. Very similar to the Ammolite fossils from Alberta, Canada, described as Ammolite.
