LINARITE, CERUSSITE SPECIMEN

Linarite is not a common mineral, it is a somewhat rare crystalline mineral that is known among mineral collectors for its unusually intense, pure blue color. Linarite was first described in 1822 by Henry James Brooke, who named the mineral Linares in Spain after its type locality.

King Arthur mine is a small-scale mine which was operated in the 30’s by an English mining company. King Arthur mine operated from 1936 to 1940 and after closing it was forgotten and "lost" in the forested hills.

Here is a nice example for the locality of electric blue Linarite crystals on matrix along with minor green Malachite and minor white Cerussite crystals. Specimen is very interesting under magnification, view the micro crystals close up. Although crystals are obvious to the naked eye, specimen requires magnification in order to enjoy the range of interesting structures and formations. Linarite from this locality is considered to be very rare because not only hardly any of this material is available on the market (google search) but also because the small mine is hard to find “lost” in the heavily forested hills. With a partly collapsed entrance and the main tunnel full of water, mining activity is extremely rare. Will be a delightful addition to any mineral or rock collection.
