This nugget comes with a story! Over 30 years ago, I spent countless weekends fossicking in this area, camping under the stars and exploring the valleys. I’ve had my share of adventures—including a tent flood in the middle of the night and an unfortunate encounter with a bull ants’ nest (lesson learned: always check the ground first!).

My brother now lives in the area and is part of the local fossickers' club. He’s seen firsthand the challenges of living in a region dotted with historic gold mines, like the sinkhole that opened in his backyard, revealing an old mining shaft.

Today, only 2% of the world's gold is found in nugget form, making these natural treasures incredibly valuable. Larger nuggets, like this one over 5 grams, are especially sought after, often commanding 10–15% above the spot price or even double for artistic shapes.

Gold nuggets from Victoria often have unique characteristics:

• Those found in quartz veins are pure and clean.

• Creek nuggets are more worn, while others retain their rugged, rigid shapes.
