Additional information Due to the glare this piece is far better in the hand than pictures may show. Full face of multicolors except for the rim part at the one edge. Only a little light working with the face to brighten and clean the color. Excellent mix of metallic colors offered at a bargain price!
Currently we have more ammolite rough than the time to produce into gemstones and more on the way. We will offer some here for sale in varying size and quality temporarily. This is an 'excellent opportunity' to purchase very, very hard to find Canadian ammolite rough.
Much of the work has been done! All rough has been stabilized using Opticon or something similar. This is a necessity to deeply seal the ammolite and to guard against flaking etc. It is now ready to be worked. Much of the surface Opticon and shale will remove to reveal more color. Also note that the ammolite is only at a pre-finished stage and will still brighten further when lightly worked, polished and finished. A brief information sheet will be sent with rough items to offer information on how to proceed to achieve a finished gem. Should you require any help of more information please let me know.
The photographs and / or video of this stone were taken with indoor lighting. Richer and more illumination of color will show in natural sunlight. Rough is photographed wet to give a closer representation of the potential when finished / polished and any dry pictures will be noted underneath.
# Please note that items are represented elsewhere and may be removed from sale or be used for other projects at any time.

some useful ' Ammolite ' information
Ammolite, the opal - like gemstone, is one of the rarest on earth. Although being over 70 million years old they are one of the newest gemstones, granted its status by the 'World Jewellery Confederation' in 1981.
Red color is fairly common, unlike precious opal where red is rarer and the most valued. Ammolite is mostly found in reds and greens with blues and purples being less frequent and therefore more valued. The stones that show brighter color, are less directional and with colorplay, and show three or more colors are the greater in value. Also, as with opal, the type of pattern plays a part in the stones value too.
Ammolite is only a thin sheet and is very rare without its matrix which is mostly limestone or shale, sometimes clay and is often flakey. For this reason it is common practice to stabilize stones by coating / impregnating them with a resin or epoxy, this is a form of treatment, for protection against further deterioration of the stone. All our ammolite items are genuine. They have been crafted and polished using the same techniques as with our opal and many have not been treated or coated unless clearly stated in the above description section.
