504G Large Reddish Orange Rough Untreated Water Mined Ammolite Specimen
Lethbridge, a city in Alberta, Canada, is located near the famous ammolite-producing area of the Bearpaw Formation. Ammolites found in and around Lethbridge would be of Late Cretaceous age. The Bearpaw Formation in this region dates back to approximately 74 to 66 million years ago during the Late Cretaceous period.
Therefore, ammolites from Lethbridge and the surrounding areas would be roughly within the age range of 66 to 74 million years old. This aligns with the time when ammonites, the marine mollusks from which ammolites are derived, thrived in the ancient seas. The unique iridescence of ammolites is a result of the fossilization process and the specific geological conditions during the Late Cretaceous period.
