Madan, in the Rhodope Mountains of Bulgaria, just north of the frontier with Greece, is an ancient ore-miners’ settlement. The history of mining in the Madan region extends back at least as far as the Thracians in the fifth century B.C. where the extraction of lead ore began.

A fantastic example from the Madan ore field in Bulgaria consisting of a cluster of the highly sought after black Sphalerite crystals which are well formed along with terminated Quartz crystals. Specimen is interesting under magnification as there are features to explore, spot and view the well formed tetrahedral Sphalerite crystals up close. Although crystals are obvious to the naked eye, specimen requires magnification in order to enjoy the range of interesting structures. Specimen will look delightful on display too.
