Presenting a beautiful 1.63ct. eye clean blue sapphire from Sri Lanka. I purchased this gemstone over 25 years ago, so my cost is considerably lower than it would be today. I'll pass this saving on to the lucky buyer of this lovely piece.

Artistic Description

A Sri Lankan blue sapphire is a masterpiece of nature, an ethereal embodiment of deep celestial blue. The stone shimmers with a mesmerizing interplay of light and depth, where silky veins of lighter hues ripple beneath its polished surface like whispers of moonlight on a midnight ocean.

Its body color ranges from an intense royal blue to a soft, velvety cornflower hue, each shade carrying a distinct character. The stone presented here ranges in the cornflower blue hue. The clarity of the gem is often remarkable, with a near-translucent depth that allows light to travel through it, casting radiant reflections. A fine Sri Lankan sapphire has an almost mystical glow, a subtle interplay of brilliance and fire, where its facets catch and bend light, creating a delicate dance of sparkle and shadow.

Whether cut in a classic oval, a regal cushion, or an elegant round, the sapphire holds an aristocratic poise. The precision of its cut enhances its luster, sharpening its edges into a crystalline symphony of angles and reflections. The cabochon cut, sometimes used for more opaque specimens, gives it an almost liquid-like smoothness, as though the very sky had been captured and polished into a precious form.

Narrative Description

Blue Sapphire is a precious gemstone, a variety of the mineral corundum consisting of Aluminum Oxide Al2O3 with trace amount of Iron, Titanium, Chromium, Vanadium or Magnesium.

Blue Sapphire is one of big three of jewellery colored gemstone. Most valued Blue Sapphires are velvety blue to violetish blue. Blue Sapphire has Mohs hardness 9.0 marking it a next to diamond as the hardest gemstone and marvelous for ring making jewelry. As a member of corundum family, its crystal system is hexagonal (trigonal). Crystals common often barrel shape prisms with flat ends.

Deep within the gem-laden heart of Sri Lanka, where the earth has cradled treasures for millions of years, the blue sapphire is born. Mined from the alluvial riverbeds and rich deposits of the Ratnapura region—aptly named the “City of Gems”—these sapphires are more than stones; they are fragments of eternity, shaped by time and the elements.

Once, long ago, a rainstorm swept across the hills, carrying minerals deep into the veins of the land. Pressed under the weight of centuries, kissed by volcanic heat, and nourished by the whispering streams, the blue sapphire took shape—hidden, waiting, growing in quiet majesty beneath the surface.

Legends whisper that Sri Lankan sapphires were the gems of kings and sages, of warriors and mystics. They adorned the crowns of emperors, the rings of alchemists, and the talismans of travelers seeking wisdom and protection. Some say they hold the power of clarity, of divine insight, of calm within chaos. Their color—the same shade as the boundless sky above—symbolizes infinite possibility and unshaken truth.

When a miner unearths a sapphire, it is as if a star has fallen into his hands—a glimmering piece of the cosmos, waiting to be shaped into a legacy. With careful hands, lapidaries study its form, carving away imperfections, revealing the heart of the stone. When the last cut is made, when the final polish is given, the sapphire becomes something more than just a jewel. It becomes a story—a story of time, of patience, of wonder, and of the unbreakable spirit of the earth.

And when it is finally set into a ring, a pendant, or a crown, it carries with it the silent song of its origins—the lull of Sri Lanka’s rivers, the whisper of the monsoon winds, and the radiance of thousands of years in waiting.
