Scheelite is a rare and striking gemstone composed of calcium tungstate (CaWO4). It is best known for its brilliant luster and strong fluorescence under ultraviolet light, glowing a vivid blue or white. Scheelite typically occurs in shades of golden yellow, orange, honey-brown, or colorless, with high transparency and a refractive index close to that of diamond.
On the Mohs hardness scale, scheelite ranks around 4.5 to 5, making it relatively soft and best suited for collector specimens or jewelry with protective settings. Major sources include Pakistan, Afghanistan, China, Austria, Bolivia, and the USA.
Gem-quality scheelite is admired for its brilliance and rarity, often cut into faceted gems that display strong internal fire and exceptional visual depth.
