Dolomite is a calcium magnesium carbonate mineral with the chemical formula CaMg(CO3)2. It typically forms in sedimentary environments and is closely associated with limestone. Dolomite crystals often exhibit a distinctive rhombohedral shape and can appear in colors such as white, colorless, pink, yellow, brown, and occasionally green. Well-formed crystals are admired for their sharp geometry and vitreous to pearly luster, making them attractive to mineral collectors.
Although widely distributed globally, well-formed, transparent, and gem-quality dolomite crystals are relatively rare, particularly those with exceptional clarity, size, or color. Such specimens are highly valued in fine mineral collections.
