Madan, in the Rhodope Mountains of Bulgaria, just north of the frontier with Greece, is an ancient ore-miners’ settlement. The history of mining in the Madan region extends back at least as far as the Thracians in the fifth century B.C. where the extraction of lead ore began.

A nice example from the Madan ore field in Bulgaria consisting of terminated Quartz crystals. Some crystals have interesting Hematite inclusions. Specimen is interesting under magnification as there are stacked disc shaped crystals of an unknown mineral, most probably dolomite on several areas. Although crystals are obvious to the naked eye, specimen requires magnification in order to enjoy the stacked crystals and Hematite inclusions. Will be a delightful addition to any mineral or rock collection.
