Aquamarine is a stunningly beautiful, light blue gemstone. Its name comes from the Latin words aqua and marina, meaning ‘water of the sea’. This is very fitting given its amazing colours, and it is understandable that sailors and fishermen as far back as the Ancient Romans thought this stone would calm waves and keep them safe at sea.

This gemstone was once believed to give its wearer protection during battle or in litigation, strengthen the happiness of marriages, and it was used by doctors to treat bloating. It was also believed to make its wearer stronger, friendlier, and more intelligent! In 1936, the Brazilian government gave First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt a beautiful dark blue aquamarine weighing over 1298 carats!
