Malayite, commonly known as Sphene or Titanite, is a rare and radiant gemstone found in select pegmatite and metamorphic deposits of Afghanistan, particularly in regions of Nuristan and Badakhshan. This gem is prized for its exceptional fire and dispersion, often surpassing that of diamond, displaying brilliant flashes of green, yellow, and brown hues under light. Afghan Malayite Sphene is typically transparent to translucent with a high refractive index (1.84–2.11) and a distinctive adamantine to resinous luster.
