6.56ct natural unheated spinel from Tajikistan.
This pink spinel is really hard to photograph, because its 'pink' appears either with more red (fushcia pink in dimmer light) or with more yellow (grapefruit in daylight).
It is very clean and the vivid grapefruit pink is unique. The lustre is amazing in this Tajikistan spinel, there is not a dull facet.
The pink is medium-light, with a rich saturation, with accounts for its shifting pink spectrum.
There is a nice hint of 'padparadscha' color, which is quite telling in the quality of this fiery spinel.
Spinels come in so many colors and one color can come in many hues. This pink is one such distinct hue, a collector spinel outside Burmese spinels.
With time, Tajikistan spinels will be increasingly sought after, since fine specimens are extremely rare.
All photos are taken in natural light, no additional lamp is used.
At its size, a ring will be striking (with or without accent stones), and it is certainly a perfect size to set into a pendant.
