Coral is one of the
most ancient of gems and is an organic gemstone and is mostly found in
Mediterranean or in Asia off pacific Taiwan or Japan.
Today environmentally sound methods are used to harvest
coral and the old days of pulling out fragile coral plants are over as
harvesters now look after natural ocean fields to do repeat harvests.
Metaphysically speaking, the benefits of these Corals include the ability to
permit flow and transformation in one’s life and to quiet the emotions.
Indonesia is renowned the world over for its fossil coral
gemstones with beautiful natural patterns. These are not coral harvested from
the seas but are actually found in high mountains
This is due to Indonesia s history of massive earth quakes
and volcanoes so that coral along the beach were force dup high into mountains
after massive earthquakes which still happen today in this island country of
over 7,800 islands and many are extinct volcanoes.
The colour tones on these fossils are generally neutral with
brown hues and very stable
Also there is sponge coral form Indonesia which is very
strong red colour and is not dyed but it is treated with resin to stabilize it
as it porous
Bamboo is often sold as red coral but it is land plant that is
easily dyed red colour
Natural red coral is rare and is known as Corallium Rubrum
and is found in caves or dark places in the Mediterranean or western pacific ocean
from Taiwan ,japan to Indonesia.
It has a hard skeletal structure and can be easily polished and
has been since ancient times from ancient Egyptian or European times.
Coral branches are now harvested at depth of 300 plus more
meter in strong currents and this is one reason it has not been exhausted as it
is difficult to go to these depths and work harvesting
