ORIGIN : MADAN, BULGARIA
Madan, in the Rhodope Mountains of Bulgaria, just north of the frontier with Greece, is an ancient ore-miners’ settlement. The history of mining in the Madan region extends back at least as far as the Thracians in the fifth century B.C. where the extraction of lead ore began.
A wonderful example of shiny metallic Galena with interesting growth patterns from the Madan ore field in Bulgaria which is noted for some unusual crystal habits of Galena, minor black Sphalerite also present. Specimen is also interesting under magnification, the greenish mineral present is Chlorite. Will be a delightful addition to any mineral or rock collection.
