Madan, in the Rhodope Mountains of Bulgaria, just north of the frontier with Greece, is an ancient ore-miners’ settlement. The history of mining in the Madan region extends back at least as far as the Thracians in the fifth century B.C. where the extraction of lead ore began.

A nice example featuring a cluster of terminated Quartz crystals with minor Pyrite from the Madan ore field in Bulgaria. Specimen is interesting under magnification as there are many interesting details to explore, some crystals have spherical black inclusions that are most probably dark Chlorite, view the micro Pyrite along with the yellowish micro crystals which I cannot identify but might be Cleophane, Limonite or perhaps another rarity. This specimen will be a wonderful addition to any mineral or rock collection.
