This stone is a bit like labradorite but orange - it is from the same group of stones with similar properties. Sunstone is a oligoclase feldspar, which when viewed from certain directions exhibits a brilliant spangled appearance known as a schiller. The optical effect is due to reflections from enclosures of red haematite and copper and are disposed parallel to the principal cleavage-plane.
