The small country of Uruguay is located in South America, between Argentina and Brazil. The area of Arapey, Artigas, in the North, is where the most valuable Amethyst deposits are located.

*  Demand from China is sadly depleting reserves of these exquisite     gemstones. The quality of the crystals are way superior to any other Amethyst mines on the planet.  The Uruguayan Amethysts are by far the best in the world. 

   The amethyst mined from Arapey, Artigas are a supreme rich Royal purple color.  It is also known as Deep Siberian. Artigas amethyst exhibits a primary purple hue of 75-80% with blue and red secondary hues comprising the remaining 15-20%.  Natural amethyst is dichroic in reddish-violet and bluish-violet, but lower quality stones do not show this beauty.
