A MARVELLOUS LARGE AND RICH SPECIMEN OF BRIGHT GREEN NEEDLE-LIKE CRYSTALS OF MALACHITE ON LIMONITIC MATRIX FROM A REALLY HARD TO FIND LOCALITY. SPECIMEN REQUIRES MAGNIFICATION (LOUPE) IN ORDER TO FULLY ENJOY THE RANGE OF INTERESTING CRYSTAL STRUCTURES. SPECIMEN LOOKS AMAZING UNDER MAGNIFICATION WITH ALL THE VUGS FILLED WITH MALACHITE.

Hardly any of this material from this locality is available on the market which makes it a rare specimen (google search) This is a wonderful example from this old Greek iron mine, which is considered to be the best locality for Malachite on Thasos Island, and probably in Greece. The earliest mining on the island has been dated to around 13,000 BC, when paleolithic miners dug a shaft at the site of the modern-era Tzines iron mine for the extraction of limonitic ochre
