Gorgeous looking cutting on this huge gem quality eye clean tourmaline from the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Many top color and quality stones are coming from this area now and my Afghan suppliers tell me some of it is higher quality than top Afghan material which traditionally was considered the world's best.
Check out this for cut. I swear by good cutting. To me open window cut stones with bulging pavilions are not that pretty. I'm in the school of you buy for the beauty. I don't care where it came from. I don't buy because of origin. I'm not patriotic to origin.
Look at how the colors work together in this stone. It's an open C axis stone so it will not go dark on you upon rotation. Closed C axis stones are not as high a quality and prices are much lower. This one is actually slightly closed 10% so this blue tourmaline has green shoulders after cutting. This is because of the light being filtered out as it bends.Finding huge size rough that is clean like this is extremely rare and the prices asked for such stones can get pretty high. I try to bargain on your behalf to bring the finest quality for the best prices. You will only see prices as low as $200/ct for this type material and normally you will see it upwards of $350/ct.
