Madan, in the Rhodope Mountains of Bulgaria, just north of the frontier with Greece, is an ancient ore-miners’ settlement. The history of mining in the Madan region extends back at least as far as the Thracians in the fifth century B.C. where the extraction of lead ore began.

A wonderful example from the Madan ore field in Bulgaria consisting of black metallic Sphalerite  with very little formed crystals along with terminated micro Quartz crystals and minor Galena on one end . Specimen is very interesting under magnification as there are numerous features to explore, view the Sphalerite crystals up close and enjoy viewing the 'melted' texture on the Galena along with the many micro Quartz crystals, Chlorite and Calcite also present under magnificaion. Although crystals are obvious to the naked eye, specimen requires magnification in order to fully enjoy the range of interesting structures. A small but mighty mixed specimen that the Madan ore field is known for. Specimen will look delightful on display in your collection due to its metallic luster and sparkle.
