Kyanite is a blue, blade-like aluminum silicate mineral (Al2SiO5) known for its distinct elongated crystals, variable hardness (harder across its width than along its length), perfect cleavage, and resistance to heat, making it valuable in high-temperature ceramics and refractories, as well as in metaphysical practices for clarity and alignment. It forms in metamorphic rocks and, while most famous for its blue color (from iron impurities), also occurs in green, black, white, or orange.
