Tsavorite is a rare and highly prized variety of grossular garnet, celebrated for its vivid green color and exceptional brilliance. Its hues range from bright grassy green to deep emerald-like tones, caused primarily by traces of vanadium and chromium. Unlike emerald, tsavorite is typically eye-clean and does not require treatments to enhance its beauty.
Discovered in the late 1960s in East Africa, tsavorite is found mainly in Kenya and Tanzania, often within metamorphic rocks associated with graphite gneiss. With a Mohs hardness of 7–7.5, it is durable enough for everyday jewelry, making it both beautiful and practical.
