Madan, in the Rhodope Mountains of Bulgaria, just north of the frontier with Greece, is an ancient ore-miners’ settlement. The history of mining in the Madan region extends back at least as far as the Thracians in the fifth century B.C. where the extraction of lead ore began.

A fantastic and hard to find example featuring a metallic shiny golden to purple - bronze Pyrite with a delightful luster along with Galena from the Madan ore field in Bulgaria. I have seen very few specimens of this material on the market labelled as 'red pyrite'. Specimen is very interesting under magnification, view the delightful bright colors that the Pyrite cubes exhibit, mostly purples and golden colors, some green and yellow colors also present at different angles. Although crystals are visible to the naked eye, specimen requires magnification in order to enjoy the crystal structures and colors, can you spot the micro terminated Quartz crystal in a cavity.
