Madan, in the Rhodope Mountains of Bulgaria, just north of the frontier with Greece, is an ancient ore-miners’ settlement. The history of mining in the Madan region extends back at least as far as the Thracians in the fifth century B.C. where the extraction of lead ore began.

A wonderful example of shiny golden intergrown Pyrite crystals with a delightful luster and interesting growth patterns along with minor micro terminated Quartz crystals on some areas from the Madan ore field in Bulgaria. Although crystals are obvious to the naked eye, specimen requires magnification in order to enjoy the range of interesting structures. Will be a delightful addition to any mineral or rock collection.
