Umbalite is a rare and exceptionally beautiful variety of pyrope–almandine–spessartine garnet, known for its vivid pink to raspberry-red hues. It is found primarily in the Umba Valley of Tanzania, from which it gets its name. Umbalite is prized for its rich, velvety color and excellent brilliance.
Key Characteristics
Color:
Soft pastel pink
Intense rose
Hot pink
Raspberry-red and purplish-red
Its color often shows a fine balance between pink and red, sometimes with a subtle violet undertone.
Luster & Brilliance:
High refractive index gives Umbalite a lively sparkle and strong internal fire.
Exhibits excellent transparency when well-cut.
Composition:
A mix within the pyrope–almandine–spessartine series, giving it a unique color range.
Hardness:
7–7.5 on the Mohs scale, making it durable for daily wear jewelry.
Rarity:
Far less common than many other garnets. True Umbalite is sourced from limited deposits and is considered collectable.
Treatments:

Excellent durability
Natural, untreated appeal
Increasingly difficult to find, especially in larger or saturated pieces

Why are users outbidding themselves?
When a bid is placed, this is the maximum amount a person is willing to bid for the product. Our system will then automatically bid on behalf of the bidder, incrementally increasing the bid up to the maximum to maintain their position as the highest bidder.
When there is an icon indicating 'Automatic Bid', it means our system is actively placing bids for the bidder based on their maximum bid. This may appear as if bidders are outbidding themselves, but it's simply a result of the system updating the bid to reflect the bidders maximum limit.
