ORIGIN : MADAN, BULGARIA
Madan, in the Rhodope Mountains of Bulgaria, just north of the frontier with Greece, is an ancient ore-miners’ settlement. The history of mining in the Madan region extends back at least as far as the Thracians in the fifth century B.C. where the extraction of lead ore began.
A nice example of silvery Galena and Quartz crystals along with minor golden Pyrite crystals from the Madan ore field in Bulgaria which is noted for some unusual crystal habits of Galena. Specimen is also interesting under magnification. Although crystals are obvious to the naked eye, specimen requires magnification in order to fully enjoy the range of interesting structures. Will be a delightful addition to any mineral or rock collection. Do not miss this opportunity.
